How Charityshare Works:
Charityshare is owned by the charities as shareholders.
The project was conceived by the NSPCC and the Children’s Society in 2003 and launched in 2005. The charities share all operational IT services, such as a helpdesk, purchasing and technical support, and this dramatically reduces their costs.
The results have been dramatic. The original business plan estimated making savings of £800,000 a year across the two charities within three years. That target was reached within 18 months. Performance figures have also improved across all charities involved.
The cost per desktop has dropped from £1,151 to £898 – a reduction of 22 per cent. The project has provided services to almost 4,000 users across the member organisations.
